About Us
Pediatric Therapy Institute has helped over 8000 children from birth through twenty-one since our opening in 1975. We see children with speech/language delays, learning disabilities, dyslexia, sensory integration disorder, developmental delays, head injuries, orthopedic injuries, motor incoordination, perceptual problems, hyperactivity, attention deficit, and emotional/behavioral disorders. Our team provides evaluation and therapy for children having a single problem or a complex syndrome. Caring professionals provide effective, comprehensive treatment at our convenient location. The comfortable atmosphere of our office fosters success and self-confidence.
Why We Are Successful
Evaluation is Comprehensive
- Extensive background information is gathered before we see the child.
- Only necessary tests are administered, avoiding over-testing.
- Some children are seen by all of our specialists, some by only one.
- We develop a complete profile of the child's strengths and weaknesses.
Total Approach to Treatment
- All information is reviewed to develop an individual treatment plan.
- Inter-related factors are identified and prioritized.
- We look for the "whys and hows" of a problem, not just developmental levels.
- Our team coordinates activities so that progress in one area facilitates growth in another.
- Current researches in education, neurology and the behavioral sciences form the basis of treatment.
Parents are Team Members
- We listen to the parental concerns and goals so that we can work together.
- Parents learn methods to help their children in a Winning Combination.
- Home activities are demonstrated and written instructions are given at each session.
- Family time constraints and finances are considered.
Therapy is Goal Directed
- All therapy is one-to-one.
- Treatment starts at a level allowing immediate success.
- The developmental sequence of typical skill acquisition is followed.
- Therapists use proven techniques, not "high tech" fads.
- Activities are constantly modified to be challenging, but successful.
- Progress is expected at each session.
Communication is Vital
- Progress is measured by reports of school performance and everyday functioning, not just by what happens in the clinic.
- Our team members listen to the children and communicate with them on their level.
- Information is shared with the physician and other professionals through diagnostic and progress reports, telephone contacts and conferences.
- Parents always decide what information is released and to whom.
- Regular contacts are made with the school to coordinate the therapy program with classroom curriculum.
